Dr James Owen Robinson is an Infectious Diseases consultant who qualified in 1997 from the University of Lausanne, Switzerland and completed his Infectious Disease training in 2005. He relocated in Australia in 2006 where he was recognised as an Infectious Disease fellow in 2010. He works as an Infectious Diseases Consultant at Royal Perth Hospital and Fiona Stanley Hospital. He also holds an academic adjunct appointment as Associate Professor, Antimicrobial Resistance and Infectious Diseases Research Laboratory
School of Veterinary and Life Sciences, Murdoch University. He is a Principal Investigator for the antimicrobial resistance surveillance programmes performed by the Australian Group on Antimicrobial Resistance (AGAR), is the Chairman of the Western Australian Committee for Antimicrobial. His research focuses on S aureus bacteremia with national collaborations through the Australian and New Zealand Collaboration on the Outcome on Staphylococcal Sepsis (ANZCOSS), the Vancomycin Efficacy in Staphylococcal Sepsis in Australasia (VANESSA) study, the Combination Antibiotic treatment for Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus trials (CAMERA 1 and 2) and the Staphylococcus aureus Adaptive Platform trial (SNAP). His other areas of interest include antimicrobial stewardship, immunocompromised host infections and invasive fungal infections. He has working prosthetic joint infections (PI for the PIANO and PIANO FORTE studies) and is now PI for ROADMAP and member of the Antibiotic working group.
